Arguably Tom at his very best...
Totally identify with King Alobar and babycakes Kudra, inspired by the ol' goat Pan... especially their taking time out to make love every few hundred yards on their cross-country walk in search of... everlasting life!

Sat, January 17, 2004 - 2:29 AMI couldn't agree with you more! I don't know if it was because this was my first Robbins book, if it was the time in my life that I read it, or the subject matter, but this was by far my favorite!
I now have a special place in my heart for beets... -

Re: Jitterbug...
Sun, January 18, 2004 - 11:20 AMForget the fact that Jitterbug Perfume is my favorite Tom Robbins book... it's my favorite book of all time. I, too, strongly identified with Alobar.
I wonder though - TR said in an interview that Switters from "Fierce Invalids" was his first male protagonist... I always considered Alobar the protagonist of "Jitterbug Perfume". Anyone else feel the same? -

Re: Jitterbug...
Thu, February 19, 2004 - 6:52 PMAlobar was most definitely "a" protagonist, but it could be just as easily debated that Pan played an even more powerful role in all of it... good ol' goatfoot Pan... the horniest guy of all! -

Re: Jitterbug...
Fri, February 20, 2004 - 10:23 AMAny of you guys know anything about Pan? The actual historical character? Ever since reading Jitterbug I've wanted to learn more about him. I know he's based in history. I see portrayals of him everywhere I go now. I wonder...

Re: Jitterbug...
Fri, April 2, 2004 - 3:34 AMMaybe he meant that it was the first time he spent an entire book on one male character, instead of having many key characters and story lines interacting with each other.
