Sat, September 13, 2003 - 2:34 PMI listened to the unabridged book on tape and LOVED it!
One of my favorite quotes:
We have nothing to lose but our winnings, and only the winners are lost.
Anyway, great book!

Tue, October 14, 2003 - 7:51 PMIt was good, I always love his writing, but I still can't get over my attachement to Skinny Legs and All. Sigh... -

Sun, November 2, 2003 - 12:48 AMI really enjoyed this one. It was a very quick read, It took me a while to get through fierce invalids, but eventually i did. This one was a pleasure and a joy. My favorite would still have to be Jitterbug. -

Thu, December 4, 2003 - 4:26 PMI honestly prefered Fierce Invalids wuite a bit but anything from Tom is most welcome. Villa Incognito has some confusions but one things I did love was the tanukis. Loved them so much we named our new ferret Tanuki after reading the book! -

Fri, March 5, 2004 - 11:07 AMKanda and I have a weird thing about naming our ferrets after Tom Robbins characters. Our first was Bingo Pajama. : )

Sat, December 6, 2003 - 8:24 AMCan't wait to read Tom's latest... but I agree... Jitterbug is still la creme de la creme, with Skinny Legs, Still Life, and Fierce Invalids in a close tie for next most orgasmic... -

Re: villa incognito
Mon, May 3, 2004 - 2:15 PMjust started reading it ... feeling like he's recycling a bit from his earlier works. but still i like it. i was really happy with fierce invalids - which was nice cus i was disappointed with half-asleep in frog pajama's ... i know it was a difficult given the perspective he used, i'm not sure what that is called first person something or other ... but i digress.
fierce invalids may now be tied for my favorite with jitterbug perfume.

Re: villa incognito
Thu, July 1, 2004 - 12:42 PMI thought this was definitely his weakest book. It was still good though, his perspective is so interesting. Plus the concept of the POWs who just stay there and live the good life is sort of timely in this day and age. I also loved his description of Bangkok. I spent two months in Thailand last year and it was clear that the man has spent some time there as well.

Re: villa incognito
Fri, July 2, 2004 - 11:59 PMOK, when did Villa Incognito come out? I can't believe I've missed it and worse yet have never heard of it. I've read every T.R. book twice up to Fierce Invalids. I feel like I've failed as a fan. -

Re: villa incognito
Sat, July 3, 2004 - 9:09 AMIt came out without much fanfare, so don't feel too bad. -

Re: villa incognito
Mon, December 13, 2004 - 5:40 PMI just finished it a couple weeks ago. It was good, but fell short in a few places for me. I felt like the characters were great and had interesting quirks but he ended everything just before they became fully flushed out. It left me wanting a little more. I think if the book was 50-100 pages longer it would have been brilliant as it is, I'd say it's maybe my least favorite so far. That being said it was still probably the best book I've read all year. I just put Tom Robbins on a higher expectation level since he's such a genius. That is the curse of being a great artist I guess you're always competing against your past works.
